Tony Coleman

He holds a Juris Doctorate from Oklahoma City University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma. He is licensed to practice in the U.S. District Court in the Western District of Oklahoma and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit.
Background
Tony worked for the leadership of the Oklahoma State Senate—the first African-American in state history to serve in this capacity and the first to serve three presidents pro tempore of the Oklahoma Senate terms within seven years.
After resigning from the Senate in 2007, he co-founded the law firm of Goza, Washington & Coleman before founding the Coleman Law Firm PLLC in 2012.
Three years later, he became the first African American in state history to win the Clarence Darrow Award in June 2015. Tony Coleman is also the first and only African American to become a member of the prestigious National College for DUI Defense. He is trained in DUI/DWI detection, standardized field sobriety test administration, the Intoxilyzer 3000, 5000, and 8000, and gas chromatography.
Awards and Achievements
Clarence Darrow Award
Mr. Coleman was the first African American in Oklahoma to receive the Clarence Darrow Award. This award recognizes the member whose work echoes the spirit of legendary defense attorney Clarence Darrow. The recipient is selected for exhibiting exemplary standards of zealous criminal defense advocacy.
Langston University Distinguished Service Award
Mr. Coleman was proud to serve as the guest speaker for Langston University’s 122nd Founders Day Celebration. Celebrating 122 years of rich tradition and the development of young leaders, Founders Day observes the vision that led to the establishment of Langston University in 1897.
Ada Lois Sipuel Fisher Diversity Award
Named in honor of the trailblazing activist who fought to become the first Black student admitted to OU College of Law in 1949. Mr. Coleman was honored by the Oklahoma Bar Association for developing innovative measures to fight discrimination and his dedication to raising issues of diversity and civil and human rights.
National Trial Lawyers Top 100
Mr. Coleman has been selected as one of the premier trial lawyers in Oklahoma by the national organization. The Top 100 members must meet stringent qualifications as civil plaintiff and/or criminal defense trial lawyers. Mr. Coleman has been a member of this select, invitation-only organization since 2016.
